The Navy's free-electron laser has successfully hit a project milestone, proving that 1 Megawatt lasers (which can burn through 2,000 feet of steel per second) are possible [from a technical and physical standpoint]; currently, the laser in the article can burn through 20 feet of steel per second. Expect laser canons on US Navy vessels in about 10 years.

EDIT: I just took a look at the comments on the article, and one mentioned getting these sorts of things started by offering to run a "How to _" program at a local library. This approach strikes me as something that may (in some places, at least) work for expanding participation in Combat Robotics as well.

I've never seen goalies duke it out..

I played a lot of hockey when I was young and fighting was a big part of the game, but I don't think that many goalies thought that they'd end up in a fight....

Maybe that's how they should decide the outcome of ties.....

My roommate and I both played hockey together since we were little and we we're both going nuts, our girlfriends came running to see what was wrong haha

I think that might have been posted before I know I've seen it a while ago but I can't think of where.
