| Hey Everybody,
I'm trying to design a 15lb horizontal spinner (an under cutter, a little like Rugburn, if anybody remembers that robot) and I was wondering; does anybody know a way of figuring out an estimate of the optimum speed for a disk like object with a diameter of about 18 inches?
thanks |

this tutorial is awesome. It covers EVERYTHING. start at like page 156 (spinning disk design). It'll talk about that, then tooth design, which helps you figure out how far to make the teeth stick out for a given speed, so if you have your tooth depth set, you can calculate the optimal speed... |

| it's not that large if it's a bar mounted onto a disk either. |

No Timothy Higgins 1 had an 18 inch weapon and we actually made it larger, we added on some other pieces and it ended up being more like 23.5 inch diameter by the 2nd match.
But Timothy Higgins is Jake's robot; I didn't complete my design for my robot this year fast enough, so I ended up working with Jake; that's not gonna happen next year.

you were. because it was a dual spinner. I originally wanted to do that, but when i weighed the weapon we had on Jake's bot, I decided that a dual spinner wasn't happening at 18 inches. |

| Remember, this is someone from the team that built a 8+ inch diameter drum as well as a 6 inch diameter drum, as well as a 120 with armor thick enough to only receive 1/6th inch deep scratches from a full-on spinner hit. Overkill is their business. |

| You know what's even more crazy? our robot weighed 13.5 pounds. and our weapon itself weighed something like 4 pounds. Nope Cody, I'm sorry, I don't have any pictures, somebody else might. I'm almost positive Senai does, cuz I'm pretty sure he took a picture of the robot where Axiom took a clean, almost 1/2 inch chunk out of the robot. |
