I suppose if you have equally not-people-y members going for pres & chief engineer, you could flip a coin...

I didn't really build any one robot that much, but I did give you Freshmen quite a few pointers. The Chief Engineer does the heavy lifting as far as making sure someone isn't doing something horrendously stupid and wasting time/$$$, and as such can tell people to make alterations to their design - or tell them that they aren't allowed to make their robot, if it's bad enough.

Yeah... Chief Engineers need to get more comfortable with telling people "No. That is not likely to even win a single match. Bring me a different design, or go work on another team." On the other hand, if a robot is horribly under-manned, the president needs to be more comfortable telling people either to go work on the robot in question, or the one guy working on it needs to shelve their robot for the year and pick a team to work with.

Actually, Chris Rodriguez had a decent design, but he scrapped the design because he didn't come to robotics enough and thus didn't have time to finish the design he wanted.

True. Although if I was in your position, any robot that at this point is 1: Not Built and 2: Doesn't have a full CAD model DONE (weapon, chassis, electronics selected, EVERYTHING) as of this Monday morning will be virtually impossible to have ready in any presentable form for Nationals due to the time needed to machine, test, and ship the robots.

One of the big reasons we always tried to have something at least ready for regionals (even if it was half-done) was to have a robot fully functional by the time nationals came around. Without that leeway of a few weeks worth of time to work out kinks, the robots that aren't yet built need to be pretty much perfect the moment you close the armor and flip the on switch for the first time.

See that makes sense, I WANT a driving chassis done by sunday, but I don't think it's gonna happen cuz we've had some people issues along the way. And since none of the people working on DughiJakeBots are gonna be at the Youth Fair, most of them don't seem to see the point of having it done.

Well, then your (or Schimmel's) job is simple: They can either come in and work, or not go to nationals this year as part of the team and loose any officer position they may hold. (If you want, I can berate Jake for you. It'll be fun!)

If you gave Jake a good lesson in discipline, that would be awesome, the other person that needs to be disciplined is Gabe Nones-Newman, really, really badly, he needs it.

WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING!?! WILL FUCKING BALES!! He is there everyday busting his ass off for everyone. The only times he isnt there (like twice a year) he is working at his house. He deserves the president position. I dont care if he is a sophomore or not. He also knows way more about robotics than any of us.

Well then, it looks like you guys have a viable candidate. Besides, he wouldn't be the first President who's also a junior Wink. (Sean, remember: no grade seniority, so technically a turbo-badass freshmen could become President or Chief Engineer in his or her sophomore year.)

Also, 200th post cheers

EDIT: Also, apparently the 1200th post on the forum!

Which is unethical. Plus, he is not at all contributing to the RE Robotics Team, he's contributing to his robot. Also, definitely have to check this, but technically the Robotics president is a Club President, therefore he has to attend Activities Council meetings and I also think that Club Presidents are required to keep their grades above some average or else they can't hold that position. I'm not very sure about that, but I think that's the way RE Clubs work.

I'm not sure if RE Robotics is classified as a club anymore - whenever I visited I kept hearing it referred to as some other category of student organization in between clubs & sports teams.

Also, "working on his robots at home" means that he's at home, which means that he's not at school, which means that he's not at the robotics meeting.

To my knowledge, we still have to attend Activities Council Meetings, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's correct, and therefore, we still, on some level qualify as a club whose president has to fit the same requirements as a Club President.

Hi.

Let's all take a deep breath.

Dughi is correct in that the school does require officers to have attended the Leadership conference.

Will Bales, except for that one requirement, really does deserve a leadership position. I would be overlooking the obvious if I didn't mention his financial contributions, so let me just address that right now--he would deserve a spot even if he gave only his time and expertise, because those things he does give (and give). He is a real team player, who wants (or at least acts like he wants) success for all involved. Will's attendance was pretty ShamWOW! good too.

In my opinion, and I don't mind a healthy discussion, Will Meeks also deserves a position--while his attendance was not stellar throughout the year, he really came through at competition.

But again, Dughi is the only one that Cramp will allow. More than that, without him the DughiJakeBots would not have progressed at all. In additon, while it is obvious that there were problems with that group, it was the largest student-managed group we have had yet, and Junior year is awfully darn tough.

The biggest problems we had this year were 1) We did not get a good working version of SolidWorks until Jan. or Feb. 2)We assumend the CNC mill would work seamlessly with SW, and it actually required HOURS of post processing 3)We (well everyone except Schimmel) did not begin to work on the 120 in earnest until after Spring Break, which was envisoned as crunch time for the 15's. and 4) I did my best to NOT intervene when you guys were messing up--I'm thinking I will return to the more 'hands on' approach I've used in previous years, but you need to let me know.

So, bottom line, we have only one person Cramp will allow to be an "official officer," but true leadership never requires authoritarian titles.
