| The MLEC design team has come up with what I think is a very unique and creative hybrid weapon. They don't want the cat out of the bag until we make one and see how it turns out, but here is the inside scoop.. It is not quite a drum and not quite a beater, but its function is the same...a rotating drum/beater weapon, but with a twist. If it works out, we wil be able to keep the same weight, but with a much beefier blade retention setup...., but with no nut bars or whatever needed!!! Really the big question is how it will peform aerodynamically...We all know that beaters draw more current than similar sized drums..this should be somewhere in between, hopefully closer to a drum... The design team scaled it down so that we can make one for little Sting....which has a weapon motor that can't get out of its own way, so if it is successful on sting, the bigger 15 pounders would have not problem whatsoever, in that they are over motored to say the least. Curious? Coming soon..... Hint: Making it requires a 4th axis on the cnc mill | |

| I think i know what you did.... I'll keep it to myself for now, but i have a similar idea (i think) for a beater/drum hybrid.. | |

| This is like nothing I'vie ever seen...so find and put up pics of whatever you think it might be. If you get it right, I'll spill the beans...but I'm willing to bet that there's nothing like it...It's nothing like Kyle's
This is going to be be good...I think that your jaws will drop when you see it.!!!

| 1 solid alu round bar....to begin with.....outside of that , just the S7 blades and retention hardware. | |

| The 4 axis machining is done!!! Just needs some finishing touches and then a sans blade preliminary speed test...then.....???
btw: my cnc did not have a 4th axis....I managed to put one together from stuff I had lying around...!!!
So this was also the first test of its performance and it did great...it made over 500 full revolutions to make the part!!! and didn't miss a beat

| Well Sting's new camshaft drum is done and it looks kind of bizarre. So far bench testing looks VERY promising...aero/drag is low, considering Remember that you saw it here first... Made from a single solid alu bar....retention hardware is massive (for a 3 pound bot) and the beef is where it needs to be. It also weighs less than my first drum with 1/4" wall...lol Tell me what you think???? | |

| It's working great so far.....decently low amperage draw and approaching 30k with my lowest kv motor!! | |

| We did some gyro and drum testing today... and it was quite impressive Here are some pics of Sting with what looks like the final weapon ....a hybrid The screws look like eyes, or..... LOW beams HIGH beams | |

| Here's a short video of our new drum design being machined and some initial gyro and hit testing
I believe that this design is unique, but correct me if I'm wrong
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-a5uosi1AA
Currently running at up to 30k, the setup is being tweaked a bit
During the hit on the 1 lbs blocks, recoil causes the bot to hit the second block. The first block lands on the grass about 30 or so feet away.
Hitting larger /heavier blocks was not as impressive, in that rather than lauching, the blades just cut big gouges into the soft alu.

| Doesn't seem like it would have enough MOI with most of the alum towards the middle. Those toolsteel bits don't look too heavy... Maybe the 15lbs version will be better. | |

My older drum had 3/8 x 3/8 x 1.1" teeth, this one has 1/2" wide teeth, plus the much heavier hardware right at or near the circumference, plus more alu out near the circumference, yet it weighs the same as the round conventional drum. It also takes longer to spin down that the round drum, so.....????? You tell me

| Josh...
It was a valid thought, most would think even worse.
This happens to be reasonably well thought out...once some aero testing and refining is done, we should see higher r's, less current draw and better overall efficiency....(on the bigger bots)
Sting might go thru one refinement (attempt to optimize the aero aspect), but the hammerhead drum shown works well enough as is. I will use it at RMP in January and Moto in Feb. with a lot of confidence.
