PostSubject: Mounting P60's to a Bot Frame   Mounting P60's to a Bot Frame I_icon_minitimeFri Mar 05, 2010 10:36 am

We have discovered that the new P60 BB gearboxes can be mounted inside the frame rails and the 2nd rails of the gearboxes turned at 90 Degrees to mount on a 90 degree frame member and slotted where it mounts.

Others might have done this in the past but it is a first for us. (not sure about the old 36mm BB motors)

(We are going to try it with the old 36's next week)

This allows you to drill and tap holes to use 2 longer set screws in the milled out front member of the gearbox on the top and bottom of the frame rail to adjust the height of the gearboxes. The slotted 90 degree frame member allows the 2nd member of the gearbox to slide along with the height.

A double set screw set up is suggested for the tapped holes in the front gearbox member to hold it solid.

It works out pretty solid and is needed when going from one floor to another. (Moto taught us a good lesson).

The height of the bot frame can then be adjusted from 1/16 off the floor to 3/8 off the floor.

We are in the process of designing a slotted set-up for the secondary wheels on our 4wd models...

Has anyone done this in the past or present??????

It worked out pretty good but I need to get some battle feedback on this set-up for the rigidity of it holding up.

no, that is how we did it in the past..

The front of the gear box actually passes through the frame and the set screws are coming from the top and bottom..

The new P60's dont have front holes anymore like the old 36's..

We had them all coming in from the side like you have in the second part of the gearbox but if you go through the frame and twist the 1st and 2nd you can mount the second one like you have it and the first can go through the frame and mount from top and bottom of the frame.

If you mill out a little more on the bottom of the frame where it goes through the frame (5/16) then you can put some pre set spacers in there and raise and lower the motor with the set screws. You can slot where you have the second part of the gearbox and have it slide with the motor and then screw it down once it is even.

I'll have to get some pics once I get back next week.

I'm heading to Erie to do some fishin this afternoon.

I cheated.. I removed two of the 4 long bolts, and replaced them with longer, nicer, ones that I put through the plate. worked fine..
