I agree on the material but I have to go with some UHMW in there.

I am a big proponent on undercutters if they are built right..

4wd is better it just depends on how they are arranged (we had some good tests on running 1/4 " orings for drive belts instead of gears and xl belts) Just found out too late to use it.

Also using 1/4 Orings on weapon drives this year was a positive.

No need for S7 shaft just get a hardened one with a soft core. (Less weight)

Drum ???? Depends on size and speed and opponent. (Scurrie has beat them all ;-)

Also Banebot ESC's I will definately not go with.... We have used Scorpion ESC with not a single problem 0 and blew quite a few Banebots. (Switch the ELEvator to reverse and you are ready to run arcade style)

The Castle Motors are the future I think.... Those new NEU's are kind of promising and the price is reasonable.

Everyone will have their own favorites so I guess those are mine!

I wouldn't go with a soft core shaft....bent to many of them along with 1/2" TI vs surgical strike.

4140 or other 4000 series alloys are other good choices. A lot has to do with how much support, and choice of bushing, bearing or whatever. Long bushings give much more support than narrow bearings.

2 vs 4 also depends on floor conditions. On wood or bad conditions, I would go with 2 otherwise it's a toss up.

Best 15 lbs. bot???? wouldn't that be Plum's?

As far as drums go....well, maybe next year we'll all know more, in that I don't see any small solid S7 highspeed drums making it up to PA any time soon.

no doubt large diameter beater and rums give the most dramatic hits....

However, the little guys have been doing pretty well. if you look at some of the video, you'll see chunks of materials laying all over the place. Alu, plastic, steel....While some drums grind when spun too fast, others actually mill. Just use an endmill profile for the tooth...lol

1) Fluffy vs Sting WMD
2) Sting vs Ripto, Weta (even tho it lost), Cake and a few others
3) Sting Em vs Aquatic disaster
4) not to mention breaking blades off of all the kitbots horizontals

we all know that all bots are not created equal, but as an advanced kind of hint , if the Plum drums meet the MLEC drums, you can count on the MLEC kids to spin their drums in opposite directions to test the strength of your bolted teeth as well as bot structure, although yours look pretty strong.

Fluffy's teeth fasteners weren't up to snuff. Neither were any of little Stings (3 lbs) even with 1/4" hardware and dowel pins on a beatle weight, when using alu as the drum material.

If you look for the Moto fight between Ntertainment and Zandor......those were pretty seriously built weapons.

plum vs. plum had our drums spin against each other and they came out perfectly fine with final hiting the roof
I dont know the energy difference between ours and yours but i cant think the outcome would be all that drastic

Hopefully Plum will come to Miami next year and we'll all find out....I'd like to see how a shock bot would do vs surgical strike as well

then again...what do I know? Sleep

dont expect to see plum at a Nola run event anytime soon.

I have to think Final shock would fair the best against SS out of any of them since Anthony, not alex designed it with undercutters in mind

Haven't seen any pics, or looked that closely, so can't say.

SS has more weapon that even it can handle. Paul V's drum took it out as well...so 2 drums = 2 losses for ss, but both drums were steel and both of SS's losses at moto were from dying, although we did take a tooth off.

2 factors vs SS...you have to be able to take some VERY big hits to the drum, and if you can drive, then the exposed wheels should eventually come off.

In my case, we took the hits...we had the wrong guards for fights against a horizontal. little sting also had the wrong guards and ended up hung up on the floor vs maniac Kathy.

the mlec bots had interchangeable guards. the batman guards worked well against verticals and wedges, while the others did the job vs horizontals.

the trip to moto was not a failure...it was all R & D.

You guys might want to rethink the anti-Nola thing. If bloomsberg and a decent number of out of state bots show up next year, a win for you guys in PA won't look all that national.

If it's any consolation, MLEC is the MOST hated team in Miami....lol

Every match, outside of our suppoerters, EVERYONE cheered for whoever we fought.

I'm sure that Plum, Bloomsberg and others must get the same reaction , especially when you clean up...

i guess in the closing ceremony in was silent when the awards we're given.

After going to the NRL national last year Mr. Volker advisor was very happy with they way it was run, especially after our experiences in miami so thats the one I'm sure Plum we'll be attending.

Everything exposed on Final is angled titanium, even if the drum should break i think it would be pretty functional as a wedge. Id post a picture buuuttt i dont have any.... of any of the bots

actually, when the awards were presented, the crowd clapped for everyone. Good sportemanship there.

There have been times (I'm sure you know) when we would have preferred to go to a different event, but we have sponsors that came aboard under the understanding that we'd be attending Bots IQ nat's.

Just cause you might not like how some stuff is done, is not a reason to take your toys and go play in a different sandbox. I don't blame you guys , a lot of wierd stuff can happen at an event, all teams may niot be equal in the eyes of some...or whatever.

You could always complain on the forums and then get trashed by the mob....lol been there, done that.

Again, it would be sad if you guys and the other top teams from pa don't show in Miami next year.

Perhaps if your advisor's gipes are similar to ours, there could be strength in numbers. Also, I believe that MLEC will be bringing even MORe support equipment, so, if needed, you would have access to various machines, etc to do repairs. That was a problem for us when we went to moto. It was hard enough to borrow a hammer, let alone anything like a drill press or sander...lol Part of playing an WAY game, I guess.

MLEC let everyone and anyone use whatever tools we had at our dsiposal. We also helped out quite a few teams, with soldering, troubleshooting, etc. We'll make you feel at home, even tho your the 'ENEMY' haha.

Pass the word on to Mr V...tell him to contact us...we'll be there for you...I promise.

the bot community is way too small for us to be bickering among ourselves...let's unite and try to grow this sport...

i feel that the effectiveness of undercutters are very dependent on the size of the arena, for example at FI and moto, Scurrie and Surgical Strike fare very well, but you see undercutters fighting in 10x10 or 12x12 boxes at IQ and such not faring quite as well.

ya, the undercutters just don't have the space to spin up, and the space to ricochet from their hits..

btw Richard, I totally agree with you! Chromoly is my new favorite stuff! what is AR plate, if you don't mind my ignorant self asking?

ar stands for abrasion resistant...used for dumpsters, large dump trucks, etc. it's really tough stuff, hard to work with as well.... big rocks and concrete, etc are very abrasive...the stuff holds up pretty well..

any pics of your fluffy armor after the sting wmd fight?

MLEC's 120 version of Sting, Em, WMD, or who knows....is looking like it might be ALL 1/2" to 3/4" S7 hardened armor or possibly some other alloy. It's still in the infant stages....if you can imagine a highspeed single tooth drum in a 120....
