| Edit- Thanks Dan.
At IQ 2010 Nola announced IQ 2011 to be in February 2011 in Miami...Plenty of lead time!!!
Got plans? CAD? Comments? Anything?
Post'em here.
Personally I'll be back probably as an FIU team to avoid the whole Pro vs College thing. Bringing back an upgraded Witch Doctor for sure and maybe something new. Come on fellow college kids.... lets get some more 120's active! |

| We'll probably be able to attend - Sum of all Fears is still slowly creeping toward completion, and we should start testing at the beginning of Fall semester. We might even be able to get non-NiCad batteries! _________________ Georgia Institute of Technology - Mechanical Engineering RoboJackets Battlebots Team - Weapons Design Team Leader 09-10 President of RE Robotics 2005-2007

| Busted Nut Robotics is Mike, Paul and me. I'm the only one in college so we registered as Pro. At the beginning of the event is was unclear who exactly we were fighting but it got resolved and turned out fine. Competing as FIU would just make things less complicated. |

| i asked, cause out kids may actually get a 120 together for next year....
one problem is tip speed....in hs it's limited to 300 fps, college is 400 and pro is 500....if they max out at 300 and have to face college and pros, which would probably happen, especially if the numbers are low, then we would like to know that we can turn up the juice, if facing non hs teams _________________ Ready to Rumble combat robots Advisor to MLEC BotsIQ team...2010 BotsIQ champions (1st and 2nd places) Spinning Tortoise...Possibly the World's first Brushless Melty!! 2010 Franklin Cup winner Vapor bots..Ho

| Worried about tip speed on the 120lber that's in that 3dpdf? I see those shorties are being geared up. Must be running 36v too. Mags may be "82%" efficient but that's peak. Efficiency at lower rpms (where you'll spend more time then most because of gearing up instead of down) is much less, meaning even more heat which means demagnetized magnets (has happened to me with a C40 mag which has even higher temp magnets), overheated brushes, melted insulation on internal motor leads, or cut armature windings. I've personally had all of those happen to me. You would need a current limit somewhere (esc or battery) but that would make spinup painfully slow to reach those high rpms. All I'm saying is plan on adjustable ratios.... or a retrodirect 2spd gearbox.... |

Actually, at this point we have some of the long and short mags, an ampflow esc, etc. so they are designing according to what they have at the moment.
I personally have little experience with the mags, and if we had the budget, we'd be looking into brushless alternatives and keep the mags as backups for the drivetrain.
drum will probably weigh around 25 pounds and will certainly be running on bearings. any suggestions? I've only looked at some of the bigger neu motors so far....but I think that with their current design, that they could probably fit almost anything in there... _________________ Ready to Rumble combat robots Advisor to MLEC BotsIQ team...2010 BotsIQ champions (1st and 2nd places) Spinning Tortoise...Possibly the World's first Brushless Melty!! 2010 Franklin Cup winner Vapor bots..Ho

| don\'t think that any of those would have the r\'s that we want ...in keeping with the current philosophy of.....too fast, too loud, all show and no go....
we were thinkin something more along the line of a pair from this page

| I'll say one thing for the hype on neu/castle motors.
They aren't lying when they talk about heat/efficiency. after playing with some align, axi, feigao, scorpion and a few other motors, the neu's definitely run a lot cooler. we use a laser temp gauge to monitor under various loads and the difference has in general been somewhat drastic.
I've heard a lot of good things about the astros, nad have spoken with the head honcho over here on a few occasions....but haven't tried any of their motors personally.
I would just like to hear an offset tooth or single tooth drum in a 120 at over 20 or 30k...just for giggles..... _________________ Ready to Rumble combat robots Advisor to MLEC BotsIQ team...2010 BotsIQ champions (1st and 2nd places) Spinning Tortoise...Possibly the World's first Brushless Melty!! 2010 Franklin Cup winner Vapor bots..Ho

| The cool part about astroflight is that Bob will sell you a motor with a custom (read hot) wind for not much more. He'll also do dual shafts, powdercoating, 6 phase leads instead of three for delta/wye switching, etc. |

:Ummm, the guy who started this thread used that motor--in his winning robot, Witch Doctor.
It was exactly as awesome as you might guess. |
