| 15's fight in a small 8 x 8 with stainless floor....recent events the floor has beenlifting at the seams. The bigger arena has uneven steel panels from what I recall | |

| Another question for those in the know:
When is the paperwork and payment deadline? Registration on buildersDB closes the 15th, but it is unclear whether or not the paperwork and payment need to be sent by then. I emailed Nola at the listed address and did not receive a response.
Edit: I seemed to have missed the information on the Battlebots website, the paperwork is due by the registration deadline. Is the entry fee due by then as well?

| I would think that paperwork and payment would be due by the 15th...however, Nola could be flexible....I would keep trying her, but it would probably be best to get things done by the deadline.
What are you thinking of entering?

Actually, I am worthless when it comes to the National event--never have been really involved in the planning or running of it.
Last year the Battlebots folks were still trying to coordinate with Nola/BotsIQ, but I think they pretty much decided the two things need to go their separate ways because the BotsIQ (educational) side had a lot more time/notice/monetary demands than the Batlebots (not educational) side was prepared to deal with. So I think that from now on BotsIQ is pretty much Nola's show.
If you can get in touch with her, she is really quite flexible when it comes to getting more bots to an event.

| Well, what Nola has said is she has "Trey and Greg's blessings" on whatever she wants to do with BotsIQ. It kinda suggests that the really cool arena will never be on this coast again, but then again we don't need to coordinate with people who really aren't interested in what works for education, but rather what might sell as entertainment.
So, I guess, OFFICIALLY, there is not a split, but from a practical point of view it seems a safe assumption.

| I'm not sure where we stand at Tech right now as far as Miami goes; we hit a lot of setbacks due to some unfortunate (avoidable ) machining errors, and the building we used to hold meetings in just got demolished. Personally, if we don't end up attending I'm just going to leave Robojackets and operate on my own from here on out. | |

I thought robojackets usually attended robogames?

| Normally, yes - but this time around, BotsIQ's event wasn't scheduled during our finals week. We'd much rather attend events on this coast, because they're all in reasonable driving range.

| True, but we do have funding limitations and Miami is the less expensive choice, even with the higher registration fees. | |

Jeff, don't hate me, but I can't remember your robots name. Care to refresh our memory? - jeeves_m_d wrote:

Really? Well then they should register it in the right category. But let them know I'LL STILL KICK KANYE'S BUTT! Don'tcha love the internet. Where we can smack talk from across the nation 24/7.

| So registration for this Event has closed! Total 46 bots -10 Pro 120 -8 College 120 -6 HS 120(2 from Ransom, 1 from RJW's, 2 from ONW) -4 College 15(Senai's bot, Alex Grants bot, and 2 from puerto rico) -18 HS 15(6 from RJW's kids, 4 from Ransom, 2 from carrolton)
Not the greatest turn out, but the bots that are there seem like they will put on a show.

| Registration has been extended to Tuesday (January 18), prolly because Miami had a 15lb & VEX competition yesterday, and folks were kinda busy. | |

| Yes. There will be an event. In addition to Battlebots, this will be a VEX Qualifier. I also wouldn't be surprised if (given the turnout) Nola lets some local 3 lb. robots run a mini-tournament.
RANT ON--I agree with the absurdity of calling it a 'National' event if there are no qualifying events anywhere, and most of the teams are local. But on the other hand, it's not as if the intention is to exclude-the registration has been open on the internet, to absolutely anyone, for quite some time. Those of you who ridicule that it really isn't national DID KNOW about it, otherwise how could you have had enough knowledge to complain? Admittedly, the date changed once, months ago, but the location was known for almost a YEAR in advance. Were you told differently? Did you feel you weren't invited to register? How can this perception be changed?
In my opinion, you can't have it both ways--i.e complain that the information (date and location) isn't available soon enough to plan, and then also complain that you knew it was gonna be in Miami. Robogames doesn't move, Motorama doesn't move, why must BotsIQ move before you give it your consideration? Does Miami in February seem like such a bad place to be? (Have you checked the weather lately?)
The only legitimate complaint I can see is that it's a darned expensive entry fee. -RANT OFF
Just hadda get that off my chest. Hope you can deal with it.

What about the country You can make light of the whole deal, but I think that it is possibly an indication of what is going on in the country. Less than stellar economy, etc. South Florida IS a long way to travel....and as already stated, entry fees are a bit steep. I just have to be grateful for any group that comes forth and puts on an event. I know that MLEC doesn't have the funding to travel...at least not this year, so we are very happy to have a place to compete. We'll just have to wait and see how things go next year..... It's not just FLORIDA....It would be nice if we could someday get ALL or most of the top teams together in the near future. It would be sad if this never happens....
