Will spotted these a few years back, and I decided to take a bit of a closer look into them (scroll down until you see Daffodil versions 1 & 2):

Pretty straightforward, it could be advantageous because you get to use most of your weight toward the drum & internals, as opposed to using it towards the typical chassis & armor configuration. I would actually make one change to the above design (mainly for the now-popular large-diameter drums): Instead of two large wheels, have three smaller wheels geared into the output shaft of your gearbox in a planetary configuration - all three wheels will rotate in the same direction, maybe getting you something closer to a tank drive than just a two-wheel drive.

| That looks really, really cool. It's like a shell spinner, but sideways. | |

| Yeah. I'm working on rough sketch work for a 12/15 lb robot at the moment, but a 120 lber would be pretty epic. I'm thinking a one-foot diameter drum would be about standard for that scale, which would be pretty insane. | |

| That would need some pretty big wheels if you want it to be okay if gets flipped though. | |

| Of course. Three per side arranged in a triangle, actually (the whole tank-drive thing). Another thing I just realized was the drum in a 120 could easily use 70 pounds, possibly 80, on the drum alone (no need for armor). | |

| How the hell would you spin an 80 lb drum with a 1 foot diameter? | |

| Eddie and I have been working up plans for a bot just like this for a year and a half now too! we arrived at the exact same 3 wheels on a planetary gearbox idea as well... We should both build them and compete lol. | |

| it would be crazy to make the three wheel a single assembly that you take off, where you have like a single mounting bar with a drive motor on each side and on each side of the bot you have 3 or 4 ev warriors or something, using like a sprocket friction drive to the drum
not to sure about weights but itd be sick

| What I'm wondering is what a fight between a full-body spinner and a full-body drum would look like... | |
