PostSubject: Worn and Loctited Set Screw Removal   Thu Sep 02, 2010 9:38 pm

So i need to switch the shaft on a 4130 axigold outrunner from the factory one to a longer piece of shaft from mcmaster. It sounds easy enough just loosen the set screws and swap right?

WRONG life of course sucks as usual and the set screws refuse to budge. I assume they've been loctited because whenever me and my friends try loosening them the allen wrench just bends then slips and the head seems to be getting worn so we dont know how to get it out with out damaging the motor.

SO the question is WHAT DO I DO? how do i get a stubborn set screw out of a hole when the hex is worn and its loctited in?

What? I really don't understand what you mean.

If you can get the 'shell' free of the stator (typically by removing a retaining clip), some heat may loosen the loctite (but it might also loosen the glue that holds the magnets in).

Then do what Will said.

I had to buy an .028" allen, just to have a peek inside some little motors... affraid

I hate the tiny stuff....i.e. torque to 2 ounce inches ???? what!!
