Alex Grant competed as a college entry in the 15's at IQ last year. I don't think that he had any college team or backing??

Alex,

1.3.2 PSEI Teams
College and University Teams are collectively known as Post-Secondary Educational Institution
(PSEI) Teams. PSEI Teams compete against one another, and not against QYO Teams.
A PSEI Team is composed of the following:
a. At least three college or other post-secondary school students. These student members must
all attend the same PSEI.
b. At least one, but not more than two Adult Supervisors who are at least 21 years old and are
instructors at the same PSEI as the student Team members.
c. Optionally, two additional Technical Advisors at least 18 years old, who need not be affiliated
with the PSEI.
Other adult Mentors may advise and assist the Team, but they cannot be Team members.
There is no stated limit to the number of Teams that may be entered by a PSEI. However, any
Team can only be affiliated with a single PSEI.

So you can start your own team but you need 3 kids from your school. You have a solid affiliation to the school just by being a student.

I doubt that you would have a problem if you came down to Miami to compete...

I'll bet that there won't be enough robots to have 2 let alone 3 divisions.. hs, college, pro...

Well I can't make it to the BotsIQ nationals this year Feb 16-20 due to classes. If it was the next week i could make it because the next week is spring break

2 things... If you really are thinking of coming down

1) Get in touch with Alex to find out what he did....From what I recall, he was there with his father and a girl...if you need an adult....well...I might qualify

2) we are having a meeting on Oct 2.....at which point, depending on the venue, the date may be changed...

In any case get your bot(s) done and see what happens....there'e always nrl? which seems a lot less expensive, no?

we should hopefully have a definite date after oct 2nd..I hope???

on a side note....budget is pretty much non-existent this year.

I wouldn't worry too much about having a team, but the $300 per 15 pounder could be a problem.

I saw your lathe post on rfl...remember to budget for tooling....it can get expensive.

Hmm, I was planning on heading down to Miami for the middleweight competition as a Pro, but I am in College. I attended the San Fran event in 2009 as pro as well, but that was better competition. If not many pros show up, I would be more interested in going the College route, but I have no interest in getting approved for it from my college as it is a pain in the booty. I will be going to Miami alone (at least atm) so who knows what I will end up trying to pull off.

I guess I need to find at least one helper for at least loading. Not like we ever bring spare parts to repair the robots anyway.

Sorry for stealing the thread, but I have similar interests.

I hope that you do come down....I'm sure that you can get some help loading your bot(s), although I'm not sure how many MW's will be there....I hope quite a few more than last year.

Chances are that pros, college and HS will all be fighting each other and I wouldn't worry too much about getting/needing any school backing

College and highschool will never fight. Witch Doctor was "pro" last year but was the only pro and after some drama we got thrown into college. This year we're registering as college and I seriously recommend you to do the same. Also so we can fight fight fight.

As long as the college bots are easy to beat. Team Think Tank never brings spare parts, so no other bot is allowed to break anything in our bot, okay?

I know I have seen witch doctor and videos, but brb while I research...

Ok no problem, hit the belts. Well that is if he can get under me. I have a feeling his wedge will be getting a lot of hits if we rush each other square on. Our drive system was very slow at Robogames, so hopefully 36v will allow me to drive it a lot faster.

We primarily armor our robots for horizontal damage, so he might have a chance indeed. Mortician and Prof Chaos is it's general top rivals these days, so the split vertical will be very K2esque to fight.

P.S. I would rather completely tweak a FBS shell then have to fight it.
