LS ROBOTICS will be recieving a Matsuura MC 500V CNC Mill from a local machine shop looking for a tax write off. The thing is in good condition but the rs232 board needs replacing. And we can only have it if it fits through the door with out heavy modification.

question are:

Is anyone familiar with this machine?

Rough Size, because i have not seen it in person?

Is replacing a RS232 interface board Difficult/ Expensive?

How old is it?

I assume that the video is NOT of the actual machine that you're getting?

That could be a very nice machine, if it's in decent condition.

Any tooling with it? (as in tool holders, cause they can get pricey)

wow, from the looks of it, that thing can machine some very large parts, and most importantly

AUTOMATIC TOOL CHANGES!!

Changing tools is such a time killer that we often try to figure out the best way to avoid them.

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!

the problem is I have never used a mac hine like this.... the only cnc I personally have used is a small denford educational CNC router, so im not sure if there is a different variation of gcode, or if all g code is the same?

tha gcode stuff is the least of your problems...

get the machine in the door and working...the rest will fall into place...

The machine has been operational for a few weeks now,we have been doing some basic machining in MDI, gotta love circular interpolation!!!

still to do, get computer interface working

and figure out how to turn on the flood coolant

what language does that cnc use? with are machine there is a a command you can write in your code to turn on coolant. Also what computer software do you use?

unknown really?

there is no computer interface right now because we got it with a fried RS232 PC board(one of the reasonn the company actually let us have it) so we don't have any software at the moment.

it uses a yasnak controller but i believe all gcode is the same but the controller requires a certain type of header. M8 should be the universal coollant code i believe but im not sure, when i say we are trying to figure out how to turn it on I meant wiring wise,

too make it fit through the small shop doors it had to be dissassembled, and we weren't too sure how to put it back together.

I've tried typing in blocks of code manually into the machine memory but i get format error alarms... but when i plug the same commmands in line by line in MDI mode it works fine which is frustrating when trying to do longer opeation that need to be repeated

yes m8 or m08 is another, is it possible to write a code manually and run it or is that involved in the missing interface? cause writing manually is relatively easy unless your using arcs or circles

i have a chart of g and m codes i could give you, but i dont know how to upload it scratch

ya thats what we have been doing... u put the machine in MDI(manual data/direct input) mode and type in the codes line by line. It works but its just that if i have to make the same piece 3 times i would prefer having the code saved to memory and have it run automatically.

Manual if fairly easy even for arcs and circles just use g3 and g2 codes.

Right now I am fully capable of machining manually, i can do all the complex cuts. It just when u need to machine an entire robot thats ALOT of repetitive typing

I would much rather just take my solidworks file and plug it into the mill, or atleast be able to hook it up to a post processor like mach 3 or VR milling, so i could just copy and paste the gcode i get from solidcam(solidworks addon)

If you want to just email it to me jeevesmd@gmail.com that would be cool
