Spektrum 6DXi Settings Help Empty
PostSubject: Spektrum 6DXi Settings Help   Spektrum 6DXi Settings Help I_icon_minitimeWed Mar 23, 2011 8:36 pm

This is our first year building a 15 lb bot. We are using a 6DXi radio. Is there any programing information available? Are there any settings in the controller we need to adjust?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Our goal was to keep it simple this year so we built a simple rammer. We have two wheels in the front, each direct drive with a Banebots PDX 16:1/ 550 motor. In the rear we have two swivel castors. Motor controller is a Sabertooth 2x12. Our biggest problem is getting it to drive straight. The wheels are square with each other and the frame of the bot. I think one motor is turning slightly faster than the other. Is there a way to compensate for this in the DX6i? Also is there a way to make the turning less sensitive? Fast motors equals really quick turns.

Thanks again for any help

I could tell you a bunch of settings, but who knows if they will apply to your situation.

Well, the first change is to do Elevon/Vtail mixing (or, I suppose, buy an Elevon mixer to do it the 'non programming' way). But from the questions, I'm guessing you got that far already. . .

For reducing the sensitivity of turning, Expo is one approach , but I like to change the Dual Rate value on the aileron channel, so that when the D/R switch on the right side is flipped toward me, the endpoints are only 60%, but if I suddenly want to turn/spin quickly, I have the other endpoint limit (when the D/R switch is pushed away) set at 100%. (It doesn't affect steering, but to make it a bit easier to control for newbies, I will also often set the Elevator D/R to 80%/100%, and tell them the 100% position is 'turbo')

As far as going straight, I think a trim adjustment (or sub trim adjustment--what is the difference?) can work OK, as long as the value isn't too high, and as long as you first bind with zero trim (to avoid the problem with the robot not initalizing on startup, like Alex said), then set the trim for straight driving afterwards. It is also possible to change the left/right endpoints to make it go straighter. However, most folks just learn how to compensate by pushing the stick just a little bit off center--it's sort of a practice makes perfect thing.

BTW--With some speed controllers, you can re-calibrate to establish straightness, but I don't know much about the Sabertooth. . .

I feel a little silly now. . . one of the few things I did know about the sabertooth was that it did mixing for you! No need to mess with elevon mixers/mixing.

Also, as I have said many times before, if you really want your robot to drive exactly straight, the thing to do is go pistolgrip (DX3E, or DX3R)
