| What do you guys use for drive motors in 15 pound Bots? my team has used both Banebots and gears. I like Banebots size but we have a problem with them burning out with the canisters they come with and when we upgrade the canisters we get slippage. Gears have proven themselves but they are just too large. so what do you guys use? thanks turtle | |

| I might not be understanding what the problem is, but have you tried Triton motors, from an Emaxx?
They are a bit heavier, but also better.
What replacement motors have you tried?
Also, what voltage have you been running them at?

| i used geared motors as my drive motors. we run our bot at 24 volts so the banebot motors we buy the canister always burns out. we bought new canisters that can handle the voltage but when we transfer the gearboxes they always end up slipping. In the past weve used gears motor as in the brand. they are very good and im happy with the performance but they are too big i would much prefer a motor the size of the banebot motors that can handle my voltage and perform well. does that clarify it? | |

| On a few occasons, we've drilled and tapped the bb pinions to prevernt slippage.
Only a small portion of the teeth actually engage the planetary gears, so there is some room to do this.
24 volts might be beyond what most can motors can handle.
Any links to your 3rd party motors?

| I don't mean to be the annoying stickler here, but stop making threads in the wrong categories!
That said, previously a large number of teams have had good luck with just plain 550 series motors stripped out of the cheapest cordless drills they could find. If you really wanted to find some good brushed motors, I believe higher quality brushed motors are still made for RC planes, the only caveat being I have no experience using them.

| http://www.gearseds.com/competition_motor.html RJW those are the gears ed. motors. There was a team from mass. at nationals running them in there wedge and the seemed like they could take a beating Apparently juggernaut used them which also took a beating in its day.
Banebots dont like much more the 12v. These are probably the most commonly used motor/gearbox
There are tons of 550 motors with different winds that may hold up better. Theres also several modifications you can make to these to make the stronger, again look around this has all been talked about. We dont have problems responding to old threads.

| yah cody is right gears take a huge beating, i dont think we've ever broke one, am i right sean?, but they are sorta big. But they also can take alot of power. So i guess theres a give and take, and the team is bastoni's team, he's involved with gears. | |

| yup, thats why we started using gears originally, cause our adviser, kurt giessler, is friends with bastoni and helped us out when we first stared battlebots. | |

| an electonics problem is completly seperate from the motor. I never looked into it before but the gears ESC is just a banebots controller with plugs on it. These contollers will not last very long with more then 12 volts | |

| This is remarkable news to me. Our experience with BB12-45's is that anything over 3S Lipo (14.8 V) causes them to overheat and stop working. Once they cool back down, they work fine, but by then you've lost the match.
What sort of setup are you using: receiver, battery, gearmotor, wheel?
