Does anyone have any suggestions as how to carry your robot on the plane. I assume they won't let you carry them on but many people check them in. You always run the risk of them losing it but I'm more afraid of them thinking it's a bomb. (I look muslim, don't ask me how).

Anywho, is there anything in particular we should remember? I was thinking of a giant "THIS IS A ROBOT! NOT A BOMB!" sign.

I shipped one of mine in a USPS flatrate shipping box(12*12*6) for pretty cheap

I had all the electronics for the 120 last year in the side compartment of my suitcase last year, and I look pretty muslim as well. So I believe it would be fine as a check in bag, as long as the batteries are disconnected.

Just don't try the carry on

whenever we go we normally done leave the assembled, we just carry the pieces. We split it up between like 20 kids or so including tools. Its always a fight to see who will carry the batteries though...

technically your required to cover the terminals on your battery pack but you can usually get away without doing that. Also remember to not bring any pressurized cans because you will get in trouble for that this includes things like WD-40. other than those two things we've checked our robots multiple times and never had a problem.

I even worked on one in the airport. If your going to carry it on I suggest leaving the shell off and everything as visible as possible, you'll save yourself a hassle

A ton of people flew with their 15's in carry on to the San Francisco competition, and I think all they did was tell the screeners what they were and kept any sharp bits in checked luggage.

We checked Thunderstuck Mini in on the plane (cause we were working on it till the last minute and couldn't ship it) but were worried as hell about it getting lost. THAT would suck big time.

SeneiERI...

I asked everyone I met from Texas if they knew you, but no one said that they did.

If you are with Thunderstruck, then we must have met, cause the same guys came over to use some benchtop machines in out little corner...after almost every match

I'm Richard or RJW....please do come over and introduce yourself tomorrow if you get a chance....

I thought that you were with the Blender people????

Well thanks for pointing that out! Next time we'll make sure to bring our own vises and sanders ALL THE WAY FROM TEXAS so we won't bother you.

And yes, we needed a lot of work because I grossly underestimated the moment of inertia of a 2 lb spinning shell. The bar? AMAZING! Oh my goodness do I love that thing. But I will defiantly be redesigning how the shock distributes throughout the bar and shell.

Let me just say, my new motto is "if it's easy to machine, it's too soft for battlebots."
