| so i started working on a new beetle, for this one i wanted to build something long term so i decided to do a FBS i designed it to be as compact as possible with a footprint of 5" x 6" so the shell should be around 7 1/2" top dia and 9" bottom dia 1 3/8" tall and i modded an brushless motor to be as low profile as possible and with everything it comes in at 25oz so i figure after i get the pulley assemble and shaft it it should be around 28-30 oz giving me somewhere around 18-20 oz for a shell

| That's a cool bot. One question though... What gearmotors are you using? | |

| hmm... 1000 rpm seems kinda fast, how fast does the robot actually go? They look kinda like these motors http://www.robotcombat.com/products/0-B16.html What voltage are you running them at? | |

| I've had good experiences with Robot Marketplace, though I'll agree that they are quite expensive. These motors look very similar to the B16s except for less than half the price. Thanks for showing me this site. | |

| well the bot runs on 1 1/4" tires so the 1000 rpm motors are a pretty awesome speed, they keep the bot quick but not uncontrollable
and if you shop around on ebay you can find them even cheaper then that, i got a pair last week for around 8$ each. you just have to be willing to wait out the shipping

| looks awesome kyle any idea on the final shell speed?
and how thick is the shell going to be?
also will you be using grips with replaceable teeth or welded on teeth?

| in theory the top speed should be around 7k
the shell is going to be made out of 1/16" ti
and i plan on using a ziggo style tooth, meaning big booty hammers

the shell is going to be made out of 1/16" ti Ok, firstly, badass dude! I'm lovin the stuff you post on here. Secondly, titanium!? Heeeells yeah. Good man. Ok, here's where we go south. Direct drive for a FBS? Bad idea dude, after your first hit, your motor will never run true again. Trust me, I've seen it happen time and time again. Plus, your spin up time will be incredibly slow. And how are you calculating the 7k? Don't tell me that's what your motor is rated for. Cause your shell is going to affect is moment of inertia and won't give you that 7k. Nice work though. We must battle one day.

Nice work though. We must battle one day. He generally uses round belts so direct drive isnt going to hurt his motors at all, plus the motors he uses are generally pretty inexpensive. He has more bot building experience the over 3/4 of this forum, I'm sure those arent just motor specs Plus this is a beetleweight not a 15
