AR6115 does not failsafe properly Empty
PostSubject: AR6115 does not failsafe properly   AR6115 does not failsafe properly I_icon_minitimeTue Sep 13, 2011 12:53 am

Just a heads up, I picked up 3 AR6115 to replace the BR6000's I've been using. According to RMP the AR6115's failsafe properly and are "BattleBots Approved"

In testing, instead of failsafing properly, they hold the last commanded position on all but the throttle channel, and after digging through the documentation I found a passage that says:

After Connection
• When the transmitter is turned on, and after the receiver connects to the transmitter, normal control
of all channels occurs.
• After the system makes a connection, if loss of signal occurs, the AR6115(e) Failsafe drives the
throttle servo only to its preset failsafe position (low throttle) that was set during binding.
• All other channels hold their last commanded position. When the signal is regained, the system
immediately (less than 4ms) regains control.

Luckily for me, I was testing the failsafe on Moros without the weapon attached.

Then they really shouldn't have this on the 6115 page-

Good News for Robot Builders!
This receiver has been tested to bind quickly and FAILSAFE properly on ALL CHANNELS with the following Spektrum Transmitters:
DX6i
DX7
DX5e
What does this mean? Well, for one, you no longer have to rely solely on the BR6000 (An older DSM1 receiver), but can now match a real DSM2 receiver with your DSM2 transmitter, to be legal for robot tournaments!

PLEASE NOTE The programmable failsafe for the throttle channel (channel 3) is set by the position of the stick on your radio at the time of binding, so before you bind, make sure the stick is in the throttle 'off' position. All other channels will automatically failsafe to a 'no signal' state. For the majority of speed controllers, this means drop to 0%, effectively creating a legal failsafe.

This receiver will NOT WORK with the original DX6 radio, only the newer DSM2 systems listed above. If you have the older DX6 radio, and wish to use for robots, you will still need to use the BR6000 receiver. The older DSM1 systems (DX6 and the BR6000) have been discontinued and can no longer be sold.

RMP verified the issue and will be updating the page shortly.

It's strange that spektrum changed that between the 6110 and 6115 versions, RMP proabably just changed the 0 to a 5 and switched the photo. Did they recommend a modern one the does failsafe properly?

Quote :
The DSM2 version, the AR6110, did failsafe properly. We didn't double check, assuming they wouldn't change something like that. The AR600 does still failsafe the same as the old AR6110/6110e and the AR500; When no link to a transmitter is present, it will output no signal except throttle which it drives to position it was in during binding.

We will be swapping out 6115/6115e's for AR600 at no extra charge for anyone that bought them.

Hmmm. I thought the AR6250 was the recommended DSM2 receiver for failsafe on all channels. But maybe I misremember.

However, I DO recall that there is a special way to bind some receivers for failsafe on all channels--power up the receiver, then unplug the bind plug before you turn on the transmitter. I would try that and see what happens. . .

Sounds about right, best I can tell, the 6255(current model) is the only spektrum rx with fully programmable failsafes. The HK OrangeRX R610 supposedly has programmable failsafes as well, so I'm going to test those before dropping $160 on bot receivers for the two 30's.
