| From Facebook- - Quote :
- So far, there is interest for open classes for 1lb, 3lb, 12lb, 30lb, MW's, and HW's. Whichever classes get atleast 12 robots is what we'll be able to run. Please comment with what weight classes you would compete in, and the number of robots. There would be cash prizes for MW and HW- Let's build some bots! (Please only comment if you are serious about competing April 25-29th in Miami Beach)

| Open class? What does this mean--any age group, any kind of sponsoring organization?
Will there still be 15lb High School?
Will there still be 120lb. High School?
(I can't imagine that there would NOT be. . . 305 meeting on Monday, so I can ask Nola then)

Hi all! I'm writing to inform you that the 2012 BattleBots IQ competition will be a part of a much larger robotics and STEM-centered event we are launching this year in Miami: STEM TECH Olympiad 2012! The competition will run from April 27-29, 2012 with check in/safety inspection days on April 25-26. Registration is already open, and all registration fees will be waived for middleweight BattleBots who register before January 1st! In addition, this year we are offering cash prizes of $2500 to be split amongst the top 3 robots in the 120 lb class! The event will be held in the Miami Beach Convention Center (same place as in 2009) 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL Registration for all combat robotics events is through the Buildersdb.com website. Registration for the academic classes can be found here: http://bit.ly/stemtechreg2 Registration for all non-combat robotics events (VEX, LegoLeague, Computer Programming, Video Game Programming and Open Showcase) can be found here: http://bit.ly/stemtechreg1 Please feel free to pass this on to other schools/teams who would be interested in participating in any of the events at STEM TECH 2012. For a full listing of the events visit: Look forward to seeing you there! Best wishes for a great 2012! Nola

| Apparently Fluffy (most likely the 120) is out as of now. Other than that, haven't really heard anything.
As a side note, I do like the expansion into the insect classes and the option for non-educational classes. It opens up the competition to a lot more people, which should help ensure it both sticks around and the sport expands in the area. Now if they could only figure out how to reconcile the 15/hobbyweight problem... | |
