Open classes at BotsIQ April 2012

This was just posted this morning, currently 6 30's, 2 12's, 8 3's, and 5 1's responding.

Open class? What does this mean--any age group, any kind of sponsoring organization?

Will there still be 15lb High School?

Will there still be 120lb. High School?

(I can't imagine that there would NOT be. . . 305 meeting on Monday, so I can ask Nola then)

I believe the idea is these will run in addition to the standard BotsIQ classes

I'm writing to inform you that the 2012 BattleBots IQ competition will be a part of a much larger robotics and STEM-centered event we are launching this year in Miami: STEM TECH Olympiad 2012!

The competition will run from April 27-29, 2012 with check in/safety inspection days on April 25-26.

Registration is already open, and all registration fees will be waived for middleweight BattleBots who register before January 1st! In addition, this year we are offering cash prizes of $2500 to be split amongst the top 3 robots in the 120 lb class!

So, anybody who has a 120 pound robot, or has access to one, should bring it to Miami for the USATL competition! The big Battlebots arena, with arena hazards, is going to be there. BRING ROBOTS!!! Thank you for your time.

Day 1 of the event has come and gone
I know gene took 2nd and 3rd in beetles and undwhere won the bettle rumble lol
Any reports?

Apparently Fluffy (most likely the 120) is out as of now. Other than that, haven't really heard anything.

As a side note, I do like the expansion into the insect classes and the option for non-educational classes. It opens up the competition to a lot more people, which should help ensure it both sticks around and the sport expands in the area. Now if they could only figure out how to reconcile the 15/hobbyweight problem...
