| I'm just getting into the hobby of robot combat and was just a little weary on the actual setup for the rc part of the bot. I have experience with 2CH radios in a lot of RC cars i work on so I know relatively how it works but if i were to want 2 modified servos as drive motors and an esc attached to a motor for the saw, what type of radio would i need do drive the servos both at once as well as have the saw running?

| check into a cheap air plane controller or the 2.4ghz which they want you to have when competing. Thats how i got into the hobby rc than robotics now im going for electrical engineering. You follow what you love to do | |

| you could do a 3 channel pistolgrip radio, like this one the Spektrum DX3E. You use the 2position choice on the 3rd channel to control your weapon, and put the default (LO) setting such that the weapon motor does not spin, and the HI setting so it spins at whatever top speed you want. Unlike servos, motors cannot interpret the signals from the receiver (nor is the power typically strong enough), so you will need an electronic speed controller (ESC) like the ones used for electric cars (are you all nitro, or have you done electrics?). Get one with a good battery eliminator circuit (BEC), so the receiver and servos can run off the main batteries without using up extra space/weight on a receiver battery.
You will also need a elevon mixer with that setup, because the radio alone cannot blend the throttle and steering signals to drive the wheel servos correctly for control.
At least, that's how I would do it.
It's also pretty easy to do with an airplane TX/RX setup, but typically you don't need/use more than three channels, and since you have a RC car background you will probably find you drive much better with the pistolgrip. | |

| Alright Ill have to see about the 3 channel pistol grip becuase that should be easy to drive and i can get a pretty nice one for not too expensive. I do all electric cars so im down with the ESC and i even have a few spares i can use. Still a little confues on how i will get the servos to work together but i will do some research. | Thanks. I think we will go with the 3 channel and we have decided to use gear motors for greater speed and use a dual motor esc. Thanks for the help but ill probably be needing more in the future | |
