Spektrum reciever? Empty
PostSubject: Spektrum reciever?   Spektrum reciever? I_icon_minitimeSat Dec 24, 2011 1:04 pm

Looking for some info out there. In need of a Spektrum receiver that has fail safe on all channels. My students have been using the BR6000's for four years and now they have been discontinued and hard to find. Don't really want to pay tons for an AR7000. Is there anything reliable from Spektrum that will work?

I've got an article in the Jan 2012 issue of servo with a more detailed review, but I've been using the R610 and R410 from Hobbyking with a DX6i without any issues.

Anyone else want to chime in on this. I have placed calls to robot market place and they informed me that the only spektrum receivers available form them that have fail safes on all channels are the AR500's and I've heard that they have binding issues. Is there any other receiver out them besides spektrum that has fail safes on all channels and compatible with the Spektrum DX6i controller?

with a dx6i, I never had binding issues with ar 500's, but 1 bot with castle brushless esc's has never failsafed to my liking. You might want to try Mike's suggestion.

I think I've mentioned it before, but it's an issue with how the failsafe functions, as there are two types of "failsafe" that technically work. I've got a longer rundown in the same article I mentioned already, but the two types are programmable failsafes and null signal failsafes. Some speed controllers will retain the last sent signal when they get a null signal instead of stopping, so for any of those, you need one that either goes to zero(not null) or to a programmed set point. Both Hobbyking RX's appear to go to the programmed point.

You may recall, my 3 lbs drumbot 'Sting' would not failsafe with either an AR500 or BR6000 at Franklin when we met, yet both receivers failsafe fine with Castle Mamba Max esc's in larger bots. The only real difference being the smaller Castle brushless escs in Sting.

I would need a 5 or 6 channel receiver. So would your recommended 6 channel solve my problem or does it work the same way as the Spektrums?

thx

It sounds like the R610 is probably worth a try at $6. If you don't want to wait for Hobbyking shipping just to confirm if it works, I could send you one of my spares if you'll cover shipping costs. If it's easier, the other option would be to send me Sting and I'll see if I can get it working with any of the rx's I've got, then mail it back to you. (occasionally you get a bad board from HK and I've got a few spare RX's, as well as two in use that I know work)

Any particular reason why you need 5-6 channels?
