| Yep..... Passed the buck on at West Mifflin this year and fed the instructor to the wolves...... He has taken to it pretty good. Mr. Perun does not know all of the bells and whistles and good and bad yet but he is liking the experience with the bots.
My Son is gearing up to compete next year in a School Club at Brownsville. Grades 5 through 12. We have downloaded Autodesk for the Macs and have started to learn the software. Rocco and his friend Derek are doing pretty good for being so young and learning CADD.
I am hoping to build 2 bots with the club next year. 1 for Bots IQ 15 pound and 1 for my son and his friend at 12 pound.
I am so surprised at how this board has died this year. The last few years I have spent numbers of days on here communicating with students all over the world. This year there might have been fewer than 100 new posts put up. I can remember nights where there were 40 people on here and the collaboration waas crazy with over 100 posts in under a half hour.
Where did everyone go????
I miss the secret keeping and lies and spit talking and good old robotics humor that was going on.

| People are reclusive anymore, and a lot of the big contributors are leaving out of highschool into college and losing time/interest in it. | |

| I know a ton of people creep, but there's a difference from creeping and just "copying" information, and actually getting involved. I do wish more people posted. It does kind of irk me though that when new people do show up, they ask so many old/simple questions without doing research, but that is the struggle every forum faces. | |

| I was just being honest. We asked a lot of simple/dumb stuff early on. Asking questions is still a step in the right direction, regardless.
Didn't mean to jack the thread. Just hadn't had much opportunity to speak on here. | |

| Lincoln-Sudbury decided to drop their battlebots program this year
The rest of the Massachusetts BotsIQ/NRL league teams seem to have fallen apart
I admit to resorting to creeping lately, not much of a bot scene here in india to post about.
Its Great that your starting a new team at a new school, should help bring some new life into the game...

| I usually hit the site once a week these days. Throw a bone out here and there. I think all of us were asking those questions in the first year. I know I had NO idea what to buy or use my first year with a team. That is the greatest thing about this site. The linking and deals and collaboration over what people think is better than something else. Some great ideas have been thrown out there and some bad ideas also. I think that any student going into engineering has to participate in the bots program. There is sooo much thought process and machining that goes into these bots that it is a great start to a career. I jus wish more actual machining would go on with the students their selves. I really enjoy the posts with those of you that keep the ball rolling on here. Keep the site going and try and get some more involvement from others.

| I think the RE kids don't ever post anymore, and without rjw, I'm the only voice from FLA these days.
Will Bales (and Kyle Awner, who never joined here, I think) were big student leaders/advocates for our program and now that they have graduated I'm in 'building mode' for the team. We have 2 freshmen who have participated with any regularity this year--for most of them it's just too much of a commitment, but it really can't be helped because it TAKES A LOT OF TIME to build your first battlebot.
In my opinion, the biggest challenge the sport has is the expense of the arena. You need to buy the thing and have a place to keep it, and set it up every time you want to have a match. Layering that on top of the challenges of designing and building the bots is more than most folks are willing to do (for no pay, especially)

| Hanover isn't even building, I don't have time to coach anymore and Giessler's passing a few months ago just put a big damper on the entire team. | |
