| Subject: Brushless ESC with full speed reverse? Wed Nov 14, 2012 6:06 pm | |
| Hey guys! First poste here. I am excited to join!
My first question is does anyone know of an ESC for a brushless motor that has full speed reverse? So far I can only find portional reverse. How can I get one to go full speed in either direction? Thanks in advance!!

| Lol I showed how newb I am. Yes I meant ESC. Truth is I am working on a robot. I need the ability to go full speed in both forward and reverse. It appears the Mambas have the ability (thanks), but I am having a hard time navigating the site.
With our current design we need both 10 and 24 inch pounds of torque and the capacity to run at least 3,000 RPM under full load. My buddy expects that at 12 volt we need roughly 40 amps.
Originally we were going to use industrial stepper motors but are seeing if hobby stuff can shave off some cost (the bot will currently cost about $10k). | |

| What are you building?
Typically ESCs designed for rock crawlers will have full revers as well as no delay. http://v2.teamnovak.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_143&products_id=46

| It is a mining robot for a university competition. We have to mine as much as we can in an allotted time. With our design we don't want to have to turn around when we go to dump the material. I will look into rock crawlers. Thanks. | |

| I should also mention that our controller will be sending out PWM signals to control direction and speed. A teammate just mentioned that there are some shields for Arduino boards that act as ESC's. Any experience with these? Good or bad, etc?
Thanks so much guys! | |

| Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's not an Arduino shield for brushless (yet). But the rock crawler ESCs, of which Castle sells, can be a pretty good solution. However, the robot community has not really come up with a good brushless drivetrain (in my opinion). Does it need to be brushless? What are you using for gearboxes? How long does it have to run for? What kind of batteries are you considering? These are all pretty important things to also know when designing a drivetrain. (however, the work you have done seems pretty legit).
The Castel site is a bit wierd, I admit. Tower Hobbies also carries some of their stuff, and if you are designing a robot, a great place to start is Robot Marketplace (not perfect, just a good starting point).
