I'm working on an antweight vertical disk - I haven't finished the design yet, so I haven't posted on here yet, but I'm working on it. Hopefully I'll have enough free time between then and now to put it together.
I'm home til jan 9th, so we'll see what happens! Even if I don't compete, I'll definitely be there.

still as plagued as ever by strange electrical problems, but other than that, still fully functional in my garage lol. Oh wait - I need to make new front clamps for the drum shaft... but ALMOST fully functional lol.

My VD isn't looking like it's going to be ready in time... I have all the parts for it but there's just one thing I cannot satisfactorily figure out on the back end. I'll try though. I still have... what... like 6 days? haha

Conundrum will be attending GCRS4.
I got it working reliably, and well. And then after ten or fifteen minutes of testing and two battery re-charges, the same issue started happening again. I don't get it.
But it makes weight now! with a real cover!

Actually, I knew that this particular drum had some very weak spots, but needed this to be proven....lol
The funny part is that I spent time making Jamo's 2 drums instead of redoing mine....!!!
So..you didn't think that I could get a decent bite on Jamo's steel drum????
Could you elaborate on this? just curious.... and now what do you think?
Part of my R & D problem is that Sting has only been out 3 times and in all cases, with the same results
1) Opponent gets ejected
2) Teeth or in the last case the drum breaks.....I may have to rename this bot to 'Snaggletooth' or something
3) In the first Jamo fight, Sting's drum cracked, but Jamo also suffered some damage to his setup. The hit was violent enough to seize his bearings, to the point where his shaft rotated in the alu suports and the wiring twisted , almost to the point of breaking...lol Also, his Br6000 went south.
The hit didn't look all that violent, but obviously the DIFFERENCE in drum speeds was almost like a hit where the 2 drums were spinning in opposite directions .
4) Now with Moto coming up and the non-ejection style arena, coupled with serious weight issues, I will probably move in a slighlty different direction.....

Only cause its all steel. I guess i wasnt really sure how it would go but i was not expecting that kind of hit right from the begining I guess i really didnt take in the fact that your still 13k faster on a bad day I guess i really didnt think it threw that much That much bite to steel still sorta suprises me, where you got ahold of his drum(behind the tooth) didnt Was his drum/ your teeth hardened?

sting's teeth were, Jamo's drum wasn't.
I'm just gonna be lazy, and copy/paste what I wrote on my blog from this event. I'm still uploading 4.8 Gb of videos to Youtube, but I'll have links to them for you probably by the end of tomorrow.
The original blog post, here, has photos and links to photos, and stuff...

Yesterday was Gulf Coast Robot Sports 4 at Hobby Marketplace. Overall, the event was fairly successful. I entered Conundrum, and my dad entered a plow bot Thorn and a drum bot Gnaw.
This event was timed to coincide with the winter breaks of several other college builders, so we all got to compete. Normally, Jim Smentowski, the owner of Robot Marketplace, runs these events, but this time Seth Carr was running it. Event-wise, it was pretty laid back, and went smoothly.
We get there and unload our tools and bots, and wait for the event to start. At least I do - in our pre-event testing, one of Thorn's drive motors seized up and my dad had to buy a new one and replace it when we got to Hobby Marketplace. Once everyone entered showed up, the event started. I drove Gnaw for its first match, and won against a twelve-year old's first bot, Scrap Metal. Thorn was next up against Verbal Irony (after a bye first round). The match went the full three minutes, Verbal Irony lost a wheel, got its vertical spinning disk stopped several times, but the judges awarded the match to Verbal Irony. Conundrum's first match was against Black and Decker Robot Wrecker, the undefeated victor of GCRS 3. After 18 seconds, we went weapon-to-weapon, and Conundrum ejected BDRW right out of the arena.
Gnaw and Verbal Irony fought next. My dad let me drive Gnaw again because he has almost no experience driving. It was another quick fight - Gnaw flipped Verbal Irony on its back, and the disk proceeded to drive the bot right out of the arena. In the next match, Thorn fought Scrap Metal. It was going well, until my dad accidentally flipped his invert switch, and backed right out of the arena. Oops. Conundrum fought Shazbot (one of Jim's bots) next. Shazbot is a difficult bot for a drum bot to fight against with it's big titanium plow, and Jim's years of driving experience. Jim's 220 lb bot Nightmare won Battlebots one of the seasons that it was on TV, so he's a seasoned pro. Not only that, but he owns the store and the arena! So he's a formidable opponent. The incessant and inexplicable radio problems that had plagued Conundrum all summer hadn't been an issue thus far in the competition, and Conundrum was doing well, but this match was the beginning of the end. And, in addition to the radio problems, the signal pin on the PWM connector for one of my drive wheels was breaking, so I kept losing signal to one of my wheels. I fought hard, and almost lasted the whole three minutes, but with only a few seconds left, Jim skillfully plowed me out of the arena. At this point, Thorn was eliminated, Gnaw was 2 and 0, and Conundrum was 1 and 1. Conundrum fought Scrap Metal next, and won. The next match we fought still confuses me, since one bot was in the winner's bracket, and one was in the loser's bracket: Conundrum vs. Gnaw.
This was the first match that my dad drove Gnaw in. We playfully duked it out for a little bit. Gnaw got stuck in a corner, and I backed out to the middle of the arena with a "I ain't gonna unstick you, daddy!" He then got unstuck, and I drove backwards, and almost out of the arena. We then fought pretty full-tilt until the belt driving my drum snapped. I pushed Gnaw around for a bit after that. Gnaw was upside down, so I let it hit me a few times, so he popped up and it looked like I was hitting him. With my drum that wasn't spinning. We kept pushing until one of his wheels came unscrewed, and came off. Then I pushed him into the pit... and fell in right after him. Double knock out with the victory going to Conundrum. Conundrum and Gnaw were now both 2 and 1. Gnaw and Shazbot had to fight next. I didn't want to fight Shazbot again, but I didn't really have a choice. I got some good hits on him, and he pinned me a few times... overall I think we came out pretty even, but the judges gave the match to Shazbot. Gnaw was eliminated. Conundrum and Shazbot were the only two bots left, so I had to fight Shazbot AGAIN. I lost by driving myself over the edge of the arena, and being unable to climb back to safety. Shazbot came over and pushed me out. Oops. But hey, second isn't too bad. No prize for second place though... even if you lose to the guy in charge.

my teeth were...his drum was not
hey dan...you beat me to the punch....lol
btw: you wouldn't happen to have video of SOT vs Wallop???
thanks
edit: Cody....I like jamo's drum design...unlike teeth attached to an alu drum or a standard beater bar, it makes it hard to get a bite cause there is no trailing edge..if his had been hardened, there would probably have been no bite...mind you a thin case hardened drum might have given a bit.
I'm very happy that things happened the way they did....better there than at Moto against a gaggle of tough bots. Outside of jamo's Cake, there wasn't much else that would have lasted vs Sting.

we brought in a friend's son who has pretty good rc experience, but no combat robot experience at all, to drive sot.
That was his first fight...I thought that he got better in the other fights..and wanted to review the fight vs wallop, which was pretty good iirc
a bot like sot requires a decent driver especially in an arena with oob and agianst a decent drumbot and someone who can drive...
