Battlebots '10 postponed

After some speculation, our fears have been confirmed. Battlebots at Mare Island has been postponed "to better coincide with new opportunities," whatever that means.

Well you seem to be our grapevine so let us know what's up.

as of now, it sounds like it will be around the same time in Coconut Grove (essentially Miami). also, a 120 arena is supposed to be there. and 15's of course..

If it's in Mid-May [AND in Miami], I'm 100% certain RoboJackets will attend it over RoboGames. We're done the 8th of May.

I dunno, that's kinda late. Usually it's in early April. If it is mid may, a lot of schools won't go because of final exams.

Our finals are the first week of May. (As are many other schools sharing our schedule format, ie those not on the quarter system)

WELL WHOOPDIE FREAKIN DO FOR YOU! Lol, my last class day is the 7th, and finals are the next week. Luckily, because of my suicide schedule, all my exams are early that week and back to back, but still. I don't know if I can handle the stress of studying for finals and finishing the robot.

if you WERE planning to go in April..then your bot would be ALREADY finished and you can just stress over the finals....

whaaaaat? i haven't even ordered materials yet. heck, my shell isn't even finalized yet. (but it's looking pretty cool)

i don't like to wait till the last minute to do anything (especially robotics) but i plan to have a lot of all nighters dedicated to finishing tornado mini 2 (or whatever it's gonna be called).

Um, I'm a little confused as well. Mainly cause I didn't know what a maitai was, but apparently it's an alcoholic beverage usually served on the beach.
So you're encouraging underage drinking? SWEET! I wanna come to your school.

As for the robot, it should be done in a couple of months. Most electronics and such will be reused, but the main problem I foresee is the welding of the...ohhhh I was about to spill the beans. You're a clever one rjw. But you can't trick me that easy.

my last day of classes is april 30th, and exams go through the 11th.

if it's late may, I'M IN! idk what i'd bring (if anything lol) but I'll definitely be there.

SO what if we plan on a big old battle mayhem up here in Pittsburgh on Memorial Day weekend???

Think we might get it to be big and hold it as a replacement to BattleBots??????

Or do you think it will just blow by and we should'nt try to plan a replacement event??

I was planning on doing something up here on that weekend anyway and maybe we could get NERC, ORC, BOTS IQ, CCR, (Eastern and Western) plus many other organizations to try and have a replacement event.

I know of 3 Local Colleges that would jump at the opportunity and a bunch of corporates that would be willing to jump in.....

3 arenas..... kg's up to 120lb --- Bot Hockey --- High School, College and Open Divisions ?????????

Two Gymnasiums back to back to each other...

8 Foot screens beside each arena.....

Small Arena (4X8) for up to 3lb...

Medium Arena (12X12) for up to 30lb...

Large Arena (24 X24) for 60lb & 120lb...

My head has smoke coming out of it right now with plans......

i think the bigger bots would be tough, very tough.

I'd certainly have two ants... idk if I can kick things off with a cmu team building something bigger yet...

NERC Can supply the small arena....
BOTS IQPA can supply the Medium Arena...
NERC can supply the large arena with a modification of the Flooring to a steel structure....
CCR can supply the Bot Hockey ring...

Everything else is just a matter of Planning and PRing.....

Just some thoughts?
