Sting loses to Maniac kathy

I'm not sure that we should have lost this one

In the end, kathy had no weapon

Sting had weapon and drive, but was hung up on the then deteriorated floor or some debris from a previous match....I think that we had a screw from another battle stuck under 1 side if the bot.

We rendered their weapon useless, while suffering no damage at all...????

Prior to this., I thought that they got the worse of the actual encounters.also thus was just after we had a small war with one of the judges....lol

What say you? Maybe I'm missing something

I am going to guess, and say that it was on the basis of aggression. It seems pretty obvious that you were able to withstand and deal damage, but the hits that were given all seem to have been in his favor. Besides the fact that it looked like he was initiating the hits.

That is my guess. could be wrong, but the video is all I have to go off of.

if you count the hits, there were maybe 7 of which I thoiught we got the better of them on 4 or more...some were a push mk went flying pretty far on a few of the hits...

then all that mk did was zip around the arena wih NO working weapon and not engaging at all...or am I wrong....mk was coming close, but never touched us, cause we had the drum facing him every time they got close and they backed away, even tho we were hung up on the floor

no biggie..it's all water under the dam at this point

I just watched the video at home and man was that some bad driving from both of you against us....

I think I am going to send a PS 2 or maybe one of Rocco's RC cars down to the sunny state so you can get some practice in

Actually, I am not usually that bad. While it may not show, our bots are so friggin low that I was getting hung up everywhere.

Not to mention that I had exactly 1 hour sleep in 3 days prior.....no excuses, but I'll also take the ugly wins....where the opponent just destroyed themselves on our bots.....in doing bot R & D for our mlec team, a terrible driver who still beats proven bots with seasoned drivers, only show how good the bots really are...imagine how they'll do with good drivers at the controls.

I've really only ever had access to driving the 2 little ones and since they were born, they've been always in pieces, getting tweaked and I never really intended to drive them myself in competition. Maybe now with the 2 vapors added to the fleet, I can keep 1 or 2 assembled and maybe get some stick time in.

I won't drive at another big event unless I do....it's embarrasing....

Kyle can really drive, but inverted, his bot had worse problems than ours.

You notice towards the end, I'm running around the arena trying to figure out why the bot doen't drive properly.

Much wosre was our 2 wedge bots...I finally realized that I needed to lift the stupid wedge in order to move at all, which kind of killed the whole concept of the bot, in that we usually get under others.

that floor offered a big advantage to 2 wheeled bots with the weight resting on a forward wedge that wasn't too sharp.

In a few videos, you can see where I tear a 4 to 6 inch long strip of wood from the floor...lol It's hilarious in retrospect....Our bots can handle uneven floors , humps, seems, etc, but not in wood....

We went with minimal clearance also just because we got our wheels ripped off of us just about every match last year so we decided to protect them this year and went way too low. they ran good across a flat floor but hung up out there...

I think Bar exam had the best clearance and could move around but you know the luck there and I switched my sons bot back to bigger wheels for his last fights...

We all still had fun and it will always be a learning process...

I just cant wait till NTMA in March to see how the changes and new bots do.

We will actually have the bots finished this time and do a lot more worrying about things other than weight.

We are battling at the school Thursdays and Fridays without weapons just to get some drive time and check all the other electronics that will finally be done the right way this time..

I think I might stay with the Mambas in the bots they seemed to work really well....

THe work returns next week in finalizing Radio Flyer and Doomsday Rebuilds.....

Someone might be seeing 2 at finals this year ;-)

As I 've said in a few places....our bots were built to run on steel floors..seams, etc. not problem, but the wood, especially aftter it got chewed up (which we helped a lot) was bad news for our low clearances and the amount of small screws, etc that we got hung up on...

It was our rookie debut and as I've experienced in other competition, sometimes you roll in and clean up, but mostly there is a learning curve and sometimes it's steep.

I hopethat at your 15 pound events, that flor conditions are much better and at least not changing as the event wears on.

One fierce uppercut vs SOT......I was zipping around like a chicken with my head cut off...sot is pretty fast and that was with the semi-burnt out practice motors...lol it ended when sot died in the corner and was counted out...no biggie ofuc is a great bot, but didn't get too many good hits in against our ti

I actually sway towards the side of monster trucks over robots disappointingly

now that the smoke (in my head) has cleared, I have to conceed that the loss to maniac kathy was ligit....I was hung up on the floor for most of the match and didn't show nearly enough aggression....

Live and learn....

On the bright side, we did manage to disable ALL of the kitbots style horizontal weapons

we'll be back and better prepared

So is the Drum speed the key to going against horizontals???
