shaft is one piece that steps up slightly. enough that I needed to tap it out even though the snap ring was removed.

they came that way. the gears are some sort of metal because a magnet picked them up.

yea our pinion gear is made of brass....which is sketchy

had to clear that up.

Red loctite can hold anything on. It isn't threaded though so I don't know what it would do.
Last year the weak brass pinions were our downfall.

Jesus how dare u, our 1 ALMOST functioning gear box did hood skadoops and spina-rummas

I don't know how we passed the driving test, but we did.

i think they felt bad for us, we were like a one wheeled Segway

The pinion was the down fall on one gear box. That pinion also failed only because the gears were brass. The gears stripped and then caused the pinion to break. these pinions are bigger and thicker. I could see the pinion stripping on these.

Yes, but we weren't the only ones. There were at least 3 teams who went in front of us and they couldn't even get their robot to turn on/bind.

Green Loctite should be used on anything that you do not want to come loose...

We have used it on our weapon pulleys for the past 3 years and have yet to break one loose...

The old 36mm pinions were brass and I have never had a problem with them...

The one big thing is to make sure they mesh good....

If half the pinion is not making contact then it will fail....

So much for a complete switch...

I hate to convert back and forth between Inventor and AutoCAD DWG's

clairton is working on things but trying to do it all in house. Of the three robots being completely designed for this year, Two have been started in metal and one is just about to be started in metal. A second year team with no platform to build off of is a big challenge to get there and compete. Its been a learning process and a costly one too.

As of now, I am trying to get myself to moto this year so that next year I can try to get at least one bot out there.
