My bot plans have been delayed over and over by real life stuff. I still have lots of drawings and SW models for them, just need to get moving on buying stuff and finishing up the drawings.

I have some cost questions. Since i am doing this out of pocket then i need to set money aside for it...

How cost effective is it to do a smaller than 12lbs bot?

I was throwing around the idea of starting small and working my way up, but would it just be better to jump into 12lbs right away? Designs i have are not untested. Mostly taking from Redemption and better electronics. Nothing i haven't done already, (except i can control every aspect Mad ) but thats for another discussion about lone wolfing it. Razz But it won't be something new and crazy that fails or wins. I expect to do okay since i can do it all, and do it properly...

How much does a 12lbs usually cost to make; Active weapon or brick/wedge? Figure in some S7, and Ti for either design too...

I'm talking like total value. Not using any freebies or free labor..

Also how to do some of you non-school builders handle money for it? Any tips on what to get first or such? I might have a place to do my machining if i help, and I think i could weasle some more S7 from a place, but i am planning for worse case here. Better to be over prepared...

Wild guess--$1500.
We almost always do our own labor, with a few waterjet exceptions. There have been many times when we've milled parts instead of waterjetting, just because it doesn't cost much to do it in house.
Electronics are usually the most pricey part--do you have batteries and chargers already? Will you need to buy a transmitter? These are significant expenses that teams reduce by sharing.
