This was my bot this year
At the Swpa it got first place and got into a three way tie for coolest bot
At nationals it took second ,best doc, and national champion
over all it has 16 wins and 2 losses

so i assume that there are bushings in the weapon that the weapon spins on

They tried a bushing in the frame to try to help cushion the shaft but the ended up just blowing out I don't think they use them anymore Bearing in the weapon

on my last match one of the bearings cracked/shattered
this is the first time we broke one with the weapon staying in one piece

Ever thought about needle bearings? I like them more than ball bearings, mostly because they spread the force of a hit out over a greater portion of the shaft. Of course, if you've only blown one ball bearing after all that abuse, it probably doesn't matter.

Needle bearings could make the bot last a lot longer before a major repair, though

not using needle bearings may be due to the possibility of the 'needle' rollers damaging the shaft. With the radial loads that weapon shafts may be subjected to, if the material of the rollers are harder than that of the shaft, then the rollers may mar the shaft and therefore reduce the bearing's effectiveness. I think that was the main reason why I've never chosen to use a needle roller bearing for a weapon application.
