You might be able to spank him iwith Sting.....he's yours if you wanna borrow him

just start out with wrong direction full speed hit and see what's left and who's still standing..just crawl right up his wedge and say Hi

What is that white cutting board looking material that seems to be used on alot of the robots on here?
You seem to be able to mount your polycarbonate directly to it.
What the name of that material and where can you buy it?

yup, its a lot softer then poly but still a very good material, use wood screws on the major framing joints, machine screws can stripe easily

all depends on what your using it for, different types are better at different thickness-es and so forth. but as far as things go 7075 is the most recommended, its aircraft grade aluminum. its has good hardness but is still light weight. it is slightly heavier then 6061 but is a good deal stronger, but with that strength its also expensive, so it depends on budget as well

a few numbers

6061...Rockwell hardness B60, Yield strength (force before it bends or snaps) around 40,000PSI

7075....Rockwell hardness B87, yield strength around 75,000PSI

I'm not sure that it would be worth the added weight to add alum. to UHMW on a Beetle wieght. Like you have noticed ALOT of bots are being made of UHMW. It light and pretty rigid and best of all its CHEAP! Against most bots UHMW is fine, the ones it isnt fine against aluminum "sheet" probably isn't going to help much either haha

Yeah, the 7075 apparently has lots more zinc in it. I like that you elaborated on the "yield strength," because it brings up the point that, while 2024 can be bent to shape (a bit too easily sometimes), and you can get away with bending 6061 some, 7075 simply snaps before you've bent it much.

Not that I would recommend bending parts to shape anyway. . .

No one has mentioned it yet, but from what I've been told, 2024 is what most of the 'hardware store' aluminum is (especially the extrusions). It is easy to find, pretty cheap, and kinda 'gummy.' I hate machining it, cuz it clogs up the cutting flutes/teeth. Also it really isn't strong enough for most parts on modern battlebots, but it used to be pretty common. I guess that's why no one even mentioned it earlier.
