Custom ESC Thread

Anyone ever thought that ESCs for robots are either enormous & resilient or small & prone to catching fire? I think we should fix this problem. I'm interested in looking into finding the schematics for a mid to high performance open-source ESC, and then refining it to fit into the smallest package possible.

this will be interesting.. if we figure this out, my dad could get the boards made, and we could sell them!

That would be an awesome source of income if the team made and sold them.

If you're interested in selling any eventual (and currently hypothetical) ESCs, the way I've seen it work out is the schematics are openly available - except you also give the option of buying pre-made and tested ESCs right alongside that. Usually people are more than happy just to buy them than go through the pain of building one themselves.
