| 12" diameter is pushing it a bit too far. My calculations say it'd be a 51 lb drum at .5" wall thickness & 1' long, with a maximum energy storage capacity (battlebots rules) of 277.32 kJ. | |

| It could be done, but you'd end up with something much closer to Copperhead than Fluffy as far as overall design. A 12" drum makes more sense in RFL competitions, where you can store more than 750 kJ due to the higher weapon speed rules. Oh, and they'd probably both be able to escape from the arena . | |

| ya, I don't think it will be a problem.. 1 foot is big enough. don't forget that if you scale EVERYTHING up 6:1, it instantly becomes 1000 pounds! I think that 1 foot will be just about right. drive for it would be either several lehner's, or some Magmotors. Inside the drum, of course.. Whyachi Planetary Gearboxes for drive.. It would be interesting.. | |

Interesting, isn't it? How about a 120 version of TTATT to go along with it?

| My concern is more that the drum will destroy itself at those speeds. After all, it needs to be able to take as much energy as it delivers. | |

| Yeh, you don't take every dimension of a 15 pounder and multiply by 8 to magically get a 120 pounder. . .
Think about/visualize this: At its crudest, you would multiply the dimensions of a small box by the cube root of 8 (which happens to be 2) to to get a large box of 8 times the volume. Imagine a kid's cubic wooden block--take 8 of them and make a cube--2 per side, see?
If fluffy's drum is 6 inches in diameter, and 8 inches long (just guessing), then to make it 8 times the volume it would need to be 12 inches in diameter and 16 inches long. Of course, if you keep the rpms the same, you end up with twice the tip speed, which doesn't seem rational, feasible, "legal", or necessary.

| ya, I'm looking at the 300 m/s limit and I don't think it will be much of a problem.. I get 18795 rpm.. That seems JUST FINE to me! | |

| They do not enforce that, at least up here. No sort of testing like that last year, as our junior's bot Bosshawg went over that limit i believe...
Redemption was doing about 178 ft/s and I recall Bosshawg being about double that.
They might this year? | |
