I did comment, but it takes 48 hours before they approve it or not
I called dimension tech (manufacturer) and they said ...duh
So I ripped off the alu heatsink and the screw terminal blocks...I'll hardwire to the board (which also avoids screws loosening) and heatsink the board to the bot....somehow??? Ti makes a good heatsink....the sabre now weighs 28 grams...lol...same as a scorpion

it's not really that great a heatsink anyways lol. The one on the 25A version's pretty good, but the others seem kinda pointless (and AND we shorted one out once because it got slightly squished and the pins on the bottom of the board shorted on the alu cover... I always take it off and put electrical tape between them then put it back on now.
here are some more photos of parts that I've finished. The drum is done, BOTH front blocks are done, the weapon motor pulley is done, my order went out today for the shaft, bearings, top plate and some screws. Hopefully (since McMaster-Carr is AWESOME) it'll ship and get here tomorrow or thursday. I bought the big block of aluminum for my frame. It's not 6061, or 7075, or even 3000 series. It's not 2024 either. It's 2099! (read this!!) Alcoa innovation won the prestigious R&D 100 award for developing this aluminum-lithium alloy for use in the aerospace industry (in 2006). It's really hard to find - I couldn't find ANYWHERE that sells it online, but when I went into the Alro Metals near me, they had this big chunk of it that was the perfect size for my frame! I'm really excited. :]
Okay. So. photos...

Aren't little bots cute???
Don't forget that you need a switch or master plug and a LIGHT to show power on...rfl rules...waaaa baaaah
Looks good so far
what's the drum weigh?
and what size shaft and bearings?

the drum's on a 3/8" 7075-T6 shaft with 7/8" OD bearings. I don't have a switch yet, but it's next on my to-do list lol.
and yes. my girlfriend wants to paint it pink and put little bows on it because it's so cute. I won't let her anywhere near it.

I spent the last five hours machining the two end caps for the drum - and they're not quite finished. I still have to put them in the milling machine and drill two holes in each, and then (WITHOUT A ROTARY TABLE! ) match the curve of the drum on the sides of the part... It's gonna be fun machining that one lol.
all the mcmaster stuff came today, it all looks good. The TinyESCs also came, and they really are tiny lol. hopefully they work.

I received the sabretooths and they suck so far...
the motors keep turing no matter what I do....and then the forward / reverse stopped working it only turns???
Plus what's the use of a flip steering, we need a flip forward/reverse...
I tried everything and they just don't work...back to the drawing board and probably some scorpions at twice the price

there are a whole bunch of dip switches on the board. Have you read about what they all do? You need to get the right combination to get it to do what you want. I'm surprised that you're having problems, because they worked great for us. :/
Try rebinding your receiver, to reestablish your failsafes and stick ranges. Then make sure the trims are set right on the controller. Are you driving mixed? http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/images/Sabertooth2X5RCQuickStart.pdf

Actually at the moment, it's not that bad...
I did an Inet search and it seems that you MUST turn radio on before receiver or receiver puts out bad info and the esc thinks that wot is neutral..lol
so when I was playing with it , binding, d/r etc. the esc was going friggin nuts...neutral was wot...baaa haaaa
at the moment, only 2 problems remain
1) motors creep, but only sometimes 2) turning off transmitter doen't stop the bot if it's moving
also, reversing the steering is fine with the flip, but how about also reversing the drirection of the bot as well??
I might be missing something there, so I still have a call into Dim.Eng
Thanks

as for the steering reversing, we had a similar problem. It was solved by some combination of reversing one motor's leads, and changing a switch setting - i think. If you keep trying at it you'll get it. It will work! I promise! What receiver are you using?

At this point I'm trying to send them back...motors keep creeping unless you use their exponential and the whole system becomes sluggish
Too many problems for me and and Tom says no way to reverse direction and steering with flip switch and a bunch of mumbo jumbo about the BR and Spektrum, so it's over for now
It was working great for a while (with limits(, but then without changin anything, the motors started to run away...lol
NOT a good thing with a combat bot

well. things are getting exciting for me here...
I have decided to name this little 1 lb project Conundrum.
With everything put together and running except the weapon and the top armor I'm 20 grams over. I need to take out 20 grams (plus whatever the top armor and belt weigh). Ew. It's hard because everything is so compact already. BUT I GOT IT TO DRIVE TODAY!! The battery wasn't charged, so it's kinda just hobbling along, but it moves!
That's the front of my frame
I had to remake my motor mount because my original plan isn't going to work... :/

i'm going to try and finish it today... i don't know though. Either way I'll probably show up to BARF anyways (with copperhead in my trunk for shits and giggles).
I've been driving this thing around a little bit, and one drive wheel has always spun better than the other, which I've kinda had to coerce into spinning... and now it doesn't spin at all. I think I may have pulled too much current through the ESC and fried it, but I'm not sure. It felt really hot at one point... :/
POO!

omg. i promise i'm not that stupid! I just couldn't see!!
my pwm was just plugged into + and - instead of signal, + and -. I missed. oops... all better. :] but still, the one wheel spins SO MUCH BETTER than the other. I think I'm gonna go replace the motor.
I do have a question concerning LiPo batteries though... my battery is a 2S 8C 800mAh Common Sense RC battery. It was the only battery that would fit in my design. It charges in about 9 minutes at 1.6A (2C). Is this normal? The charger says it only has a charge capacity of like 0043 (I'm using an eflite lipo balancing charger) but I'm not sure what that means. 0043mAh? that's not even close!?

AAHHHH it's FREAKING OUT!
the bec that i plugged in wrong, I think i screwed it up. At anything less that full tilt (stick in the corner so 100% goes to that one motor) it twitches, going like forward, stop, forward, reverse, forward, and even keeps moving for like a second after i let go of the drive stick. shiiiit... I guess it's a good thing I bought four? Two were supposed to be for my dad's bot... Oh well. He's no where near ready for them yet though lol. His bot is FAT!
